MONGREL MARKS ITS TERRITORY WITH ‘FEAR, LIES, AND PROPAGANDA’

MongrelRock n’ roll circa 2008 is becoming an increasingly predictable affair. So whenever a new band comes along that refuses to be aligned to a single style, it certainly makes the ears perk up. Case in point, the eastern Massachusetts-based quintet, Mongrel. Freshly signed to Screaming Ferret Wreckords, the lads – which includes singer Drew Barker, guitarists Adam Savage, bassist Rev, and drummer Ed Loguercio – are aiming to leave their mark with a newly re-released version of their debut full-length, ‘Fear, Lies, and Propaganda.’ Read More ....

MELIAH RAGE REUNITE WITH ORIGINAL SINGER, BEGIN WORK ON ALL-NEW ALBUM

Meliah RageThroughout the course of their career, Meliah Rage has refused to let line-up changes derail or silence the mighty metal quintet from Boston, Massachusetts. And the group continues to live by this rule, as they’ve just announced the re-entry of the group’s original frontman, Mike Munro. After singer Paul Souza exited the band late last year, a six-month search for a suitable replacement began, which led to a dead end. That is, until producer Rich Spillberg suggested that they should contact Munro, and get back to their roots. After being out of Meliah Rage for over a decade, Munro is back for more, joining band mates Anthony Nichols (guitar), Jim Koury (guitar), Darren Lourie (bass), and Stu Dowie (drums). Read More ....

GUITAR-HEAVY, ALL-INSTRUMENTAL HARD ROCK MAKES A COMEBACK ON CLINTONE’S ‘FULL CIRCLE’

ClintoneThink the ‘guitar hero’ is dead? Guess again!
The early 21st century has seen a resurgence in guitarists who have perfected their shredding skills, and six-string wiz Clintone certainly fits the bill – especially on his debut recording for the Metro City/Locomotive label, ‘Full Circle.’
Instantly bringing to mind the guitar heroics of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, the Salem, New Hampshire native can certainly hold his own with the best of them – able to show off his chops while also penning memorable and hook-heavy songs (which are entirely instrumental – harkening back to the heady days of ‘Surfing with the Alien’). RED RIGHT HAND UNLEASH UNBRIDLED METALLIC ASSAULT WITH ‘PLOTTING YOUR DEATH’

Red Right HandIf you’re looking for a pure metal album - and we’re talking pure - then the latest release from Red Right Hand, ‘Plotting Your Death’ (out now on Screaming Ferret Wreckords) is the album for you. “Red Right Hand is a metal band,” officially declares the group’s singer, Chris Kozdra. “We do not limit ourselves beyond that to a specific brand of metal. There are elements of thrash, speed, hardcore, etc. sprinkled throughout the songs.” As evidenced by such fierce ditties as “Dead To Me,” “God Said (You’re Useless),” and “All About Me,” Kozdra certainly doesn’t mince his words.

Based in Manchester, New Hampshire, Red Right Hand is comprised of some of the area’s most respected metal vets – in addition to Kozdra, the group also features guitarists Tim Koukos and Pete Demaggio, bassist Dave Ulrich, and drummer Jim Boraczek. The group has been touring and issuing albums since the close of the 20th century, and continue to rock ferociously, as evidenced throughout ‘Plotting Your Death.’  Read More ....

RED RIGHT HAND GUITARIST PETE DeMAGGIO GETS TO SHOW HIS OTHER SIDE ON ‘TO WHEREVER YOU ARE’

Pete DemaggioAlthough Pete DeMaggio’s main musical focus is representing one-half of the guitar tandem in metallists Red Right Hand, it turns out that he’s also a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and even (gasp!) a tunesmith – as evidenced by his 2008 solo release, ‘To Wherever You Are.’ With a release date forthcoming sometime in October (and issued via Metro City/Screaming Ferret), DeMaggio follows in the footsteps of Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and Prince – as he produced, wrote, sang, and played the majority of the instruments himself.

“’To Wherever You Are’ is a collection of songs I wrote from July '06-August '07,” explains DeMaggio. “All revolving around a common denominator - a woman. But it's really just an audio diary - I didn't set out to release an album, I just did it as therapy. The songs are all over the  musical map. If you asked me what style of music it is, I'd ask you to listen to it and you tell me.” And when asked to compare his solo material to his work with Red Right Hand, DeMaggio offers a ‘scientific’ description. “It's like the Periodic Table of Elements of Music - Red Right Hand is more like straight up metal, drop-forged steel!” Read More ....

TIM KOUKOS PAYS TRIBUTE TO HIS HOMETOWN WITH ALL-INSTRUMENTAL GUITAR HEAVY RELEASE, ‘…AND THE SNOW IS TOO DUMB TO MELT’

Tim KoukosBest known as half of the guitar tandem of Red Right Hand, the head of Screaming Ferret Wreckords, and the owner of Screaming Ferret Recording Studios, Tim Koukos is one busy man. But he has also found the time to issue his own solo album, ‘…And the Snow is Too Dumb to Melt,’ a quirky set of guitar-heavy tunes that pays tribute to his sleepy hometown of Hillsboro, New Hampshire. Or, as the man himself describes the album, “An instrumental depiction of day-to-day life in small town New Hampshire USA, by one not so sound individual.”

Koukos also offers to dig a bit deeper into this mysteriously and titled album, and its quirky subject matter (not to mention some very David Lynch-esque song titles). “It’s basically me sarcastically poking fun of Hillsboro NH, a town were I’ve spent the past eleven years of my life. It’s in the middle of nowhere and there’s no good way to get there. Most of the songs on the album are inspired/named after events and things that influenced me from there, one way or another. Really, it’s not a bad place to live, especially if you want to raise a family. I feel I’ve learned a lot from my experiences there, good and bad. Very different from living in a city, let me tell you, and honestly, I choose the city.” Read More ....

Gaggle of Cocks (GOC) from the bowels of NYC's lower east side

Gaggle of CocksGaggle of Cocks (GOC) emerged from the bowels of NYC's lower east side music scene in 2001. They fought their way to the top of a pecking order that included such New York City underground icons as The Bullys and The Toilet Boys. Within a year GOC was hammering it out regularly at such legendary clubs as CBGBs, The Continental, Don Hills and L'Amour.

In 2002 GOC self-financed and independently released their debut CD, American Trash (produced and engineered by Ron Allaire). Upon its release, American Trash was hailed as "music to drive a tank to" by dudethatrocks.com. Sleazegrinder.com said that gaggle of cocks sound like "freshly killed steers ripping loose from their hooks." Texas' The Edge Magazine described gaggle of cocks as being "nestled somewhere between Dixie Witch and Kyuss" while numerous other reviews have made comparisons to bands such as Brand New Sin, Corrosion of Conformity (COC), Circus of Power, Circus of Power singing COC songs, Clutch and both old-school Metallica and Load and Reload-era Metallica. (For a complete rundown of these reviews please see “What People Are Saying About GOC”). Read More ....
